Javier Preciado, graduate of the School Pharmacy of the University of Navarra, has obtained the ninth place in the spanish pharmacy residency program (Internal Resident Pharmacist) exam. Two other graduates, Ana Suárez-Lledó from Asturias (72nd) and Olaia Serna from Navarra (89th), are also among the top 100. In addition, the Cantabrian Álvaro Medina Guerrero was ranked 154th.
To this 2015 call 1,431 people have applied for the 246 offered nationwide. Through this exam, aspiring p harmacists can obtain a place of training health specializing in Clinical Analysis and Biochemistry Clinical, Genetics Clinical, Immunology, Microbiology and Parasitology, Radiopharmacy and Hospital Pharmacy and Primary Care. They can also choose the specialization program in Industrial and Galenic Pharmacy (EFIG), an official program that is only offered at four Spanish universities, including the University of Navarra, to train students in the manufacture, control, development and regulation of medicines.
The latter is the reason why Preciado has taken the exam:"The spanish pharmacy residency program is a good option to be able to work in a hospital during the four years of residency program". Among his options, he is considering taking the specialization program in Navarra, although he does not rule out going abroad. A possibility of choice thanks to a "very hard preparation", he says.
