The hematologistJesús San Miguel Izquierdo, director of Clinical and Translational Medicine at the University, Associate Dean of the School of Medicine and director doctor of the Clínica Universidad de Navarrais the third most cited scientist and first clinical specialist in Spain, according to the ranking published by the group for the Diffusion of H Index (DIH). Dr. Miguel Angel Martinez Gonzalez, Full Professor of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, is in 16th place in the ranking. Three other researchers from the same university center, two of them specialists at the Clínica, are also among the top 100 scientists in the ranking.

The group for the Dissemination of the H-index publishes this ranking with the goal to publicize the scientists with the highest h-index of those working in Spain. The h-index is an international assessment factor used to measure the professional quality of scientists according to the number of citations their scientific articles have received. It is obtained by ordering from highest to lowest the scientific articles of each researcher according to the issue of citations received, the h-index being the issue in which the order digit coincides with the issue of citations. For example, an index h=5 means that an author has 5 articles that have received at least 5 citations each.

The ranking of the group DIH contains the 726 most important researchers in health sciences, resident in Spain and ordered by their scientific area and h-index. The information used to prepare the ranking comes from the database ISI Web of Science, which ensures that the h-values obtained are objective.
