Stefano Zamagni, professor at the University of Bologna (Italy) and member of the Pontifical committee for Justice and Peace, will give on March 18, 2016 the III ICS Lecture on Humanities and Social Sciences of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS).

degree scrollThe discussion paper is entitled 'Enhancing integral human development: the proposal of civil economy' (promote el development el integral human development: la proposal de la Economics civil) and takes place at classroom of the ICS, in the new headquarters of high school. The presentation is position by Luis Ravina, researcher principal of the Navarra Center for International Development, which is part of the ICS.

The ICS lectures are a series of conferences organized by the Institute for Culture and Society on an annual basis and given by internationally renowned researchers. The goal of these meetings is to present to the whole University of Navarra some of the topics that are being researched in the different projects of the ICS.

On the speaker

Stefano Zamagni, Full Professor of Economics Politics at the University of Bologna and Associate Professor of the Johns Hopkins University of Bologna. Since 1991 he has been a member of the Pontifical committee for Justice and Peace. He is also a member of the Academy of Sciences of Milan, the Academy of Sciences of Bologna, the Academy of Sciences of Modena and the Academy of Sciences of New York. In addition, he has been a member of the executive committee the association International of Economics and of the committee directive of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.

He was also president of ICMC from 1999 to 2007 - a Geneva-based NGO focused on migration and refugee issues - and a member of the association of development and training, Harvard University. He also participates in the scientific committee of several scientific journals of Economics, such as the Journal of International and Comparative Economics, from publishing house Springer; The European Journal of the History of Economic Thought, from Routledge; Economics and Philosophy, from Cambridge University Press; and the Journal of Economic Methodology, from Routledge, among others.

Among other distinctions, he has been named McDonnel Distinguished Scholar in Helsinki (1992) and Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International (1995). He also received the award de Economics St. Vincent from the Regional Government of Valle d'Aosta (1989), the award Economic of Capri from the association for the development of Social Sciences (1996), the award Golden Sigismondo from the Municipality of Rimini (1997) and the Gold Medal from the Pio Manzu International Center (1998). He is honorary citizen of the city of Rosario (Argentina) and Mar del Plata (Argentina); Gold Medal of the Unions of credit Italian (2005); Knight Commander of the Order of St. Gregory the Great; honorary doctor by the University Francisco de Vitoria (2010); and award of Peace Giorgio La Pira (2010).
