The University hosted last week the XII congress of the Society of Tropical Medicine and International Health (SEMTSI), organized at partnership with the Institute of Tropical Health (Istun) on the occasion of its tenth anniversary. During the closing ceremony, there was a special recognition for the professors of the School of Pharmacy and Nutrition Antonio Monge and Isabel García Jalón, recently deceased.

The high school wanted to take advantage of the event to thank with awards those people and centers of the University that contributed their work and effort to make the center a reality in October 2011. Thus, the work carried out by the Departments of Microbiology and Parasitology was highlighted, with a special tribute to Isabel García Jalón and Ramón Díaz; and of Technology and Chemistry Pharmaceuticals, with an outstanding accredited specialization to work developed by professors Antonio Monge and Juan Palop.

In addition, another distinction was awarded to Fernando de la Puente, who was General Manager of Cima when Istun was created, and to Iciar Astiasarán, Vice President of research at the time, for her contribution to the start-up and development of high school.

The award to department from Microbiology and Parasitology was collected by Agnes Díaz, daughter of Ramón Díaz, and Anabel Vitas, disciple of Professor Isabel García Jalón, from the Dean of Medicine, Marta Ferrer.
