The Library Services Fort-Pienc in Barcelona is hosting until April 22nd the exhibition "38 fotografías para retratar los cincuenta. The SEAT buildings: Showcase of a new architecture". The sample, organized by the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra, brings together 38 images of buildings constructed in the 1950s by architects César Ortiz-Echagüe and Rafael Echaide for the automobile company SEAT business .

The photographs are part of the architects' personal collections donated to file General of the University of Navarra. Thus, the School of Architecture decided to reproduce these 38 images to compose a exhibition and edit a catalog to illustrate the architectural scope of these two architects linked to the academic center.

A exhibition reflection of society

José Manuel Pozo, professor at School of Architecture and one of the promoters of the sample, says that the photographs "show in a particularly striking way the spirit that animated Spanish society in the years in which the buildings portrayed were built". To which he adds the following: "The works show very well that enthusiasm, the desire for progress and the will to give birth to a new Economics, as well as the social order that prevailed in Spain during the fifties and sixties".

For his part, José Ángel Medina, professor at department de Proyectos, considers that "Ortiz-Echagüe and Echaide are two key names when it comes to understanding the valuable contribution made to Spanish architecture by the incorporation of project strategies similar to those developed by contemporaries such as Skidmore, Owen & Merryl (SOM) or Mies van der Rohe in the USA".

This exhibition was previously shown in Pamplona on the occasion of the international congress "American architecture, engine and mirror of Spanish architecture at the beginning of modernity (1940-1965)", held at the academic center's own School of Architecture , and has been installed in Barcelona at the request of Memorial Seat to celebrate the sixtieth anniversary of the birth of the business.
