1,300 schoolchildren participate in Science Week activities

The School of Science has organized, from November 10 to 14, informative sessions on different branches of knowledge and workshops on biology, Chemistry, microbiology, physics, Genetics, insects, minerals and rocks.

The School of Science of the University of Navarra has once again organized educational activities for schools during Science Week. From November 10 to 14, 1,300 schoolchildren -from 4th ESO to 2nd year of high school diplomahave approached science thanks to the informative activities proposed by the academic center.

In total, 1.300 attendees from 19 schools in Navarra, Guipúzcoa, La Rioja and Burgos: Adériz, IES Julio Caro Baroja, Santa Luisa de Marillac, Ikastola Paz de Ziganda, high school Luis Amigó, FEC Vedruna, IES Berriozar, high school María Inmaculada, high school Irabia-Izaga, IES Sierra de Leyre, high school Liceo Monjardín, IES Padre Moret-Irubide, Miravalles- El Redín, IES Barañain, Aldapeta María ikastetxea (San Sebastián), high school Jesuitas (San Sebastián), high school Sagrados Corazones (Miranda de Ebro), Maristas (Logroño) and St. Patricks (San Sebastián). The School of Science has organized the following science workshops: Biology - methods and tools for the study of wildlife; Geology - observation of the rocks that form Navarre and the minerals that make them up; Microbiology - the microorganisms that surround us; Insects - curiosities about their Anatomy, Biology and relationships with humans; Chemistry - combustion and fire; Genetics - how techniques work to analyze DNA present in a sample obtained at a crime scene; Physics - how we have statement messages throughout history: Smoke, lights and flags, Morse code, wired and wireless telephony, fiber optics and mobile In addition, theWomen for Science and Technology group of the University presented the game"Wanna be a Scientist?" to school students. 

During Science Week, participants were also able to enjoy informative sessions on different branches of knowledge, given by professors Iñaki Echeverría, Ana Patiño, Raúl Bermejo, Elena Puerta and Enrique Baquero: "Artificial intelligence and its footprint in scientific research "; "If we talk about Genetics, we are all mutants"; "Travelers of the Planet: discovering landscapes and environmental challenges"; "How drugs trap you: discover what happens in your brain"; and "Nature as an engineer: biomimetics".

The Science and Technology Week is an event organized every year by the School of Science of the University of Navarra to bring science closer to the general public. In this same line, and with the spirit of awakening new scientific vocations and training future scientists, the School will accompany, on Saturday, November 22nd, all students and their families interested in the academic programs of the center, in the Open Doorsworkshop of the University of Navarra.
