The importance of educating emotions was the topic of which the Full Professor of Psychology of the University of Malaga, Pablo Fernandez-Berrocal, spoke at the University of Navarra. "Emotional intelligence: keys to success staff andprofessional success in the XXI century", was the degree scroll of the lecture in which the expert pointed out the need to make "an emotional revolution in the system educational and in society. We must invest time and resources in knowing ourselves emotionally". According to the expert, research has shown that children who attend schools where validated emotional intelligence programs are followed have better psychological adjustment, better academic performance, better social relations and less aggressive behavior.

Throughout the lecture, the Full Professor insisted on the importance of working on emotional intelligence as a factor core topic for development both staff and professional, "the best workers are not generally those with the best grades, but those who have developed other qualities as well, such as emotional and social," he said. "They are more creative, intuitive and innovative. School should not focus on cognitive aspects and scientific learning. The Education of the 21st century has to work on the emotional and social development ."

Work environment and performance

Currently, 20% of people of working age suffer from some mental disorder, and it is predicted that by the year 2025, one in four will suffer from it. According to Fernández-Berrocal, "recent research has shown that people with greater emotional balance are happier, and this has a clear relationship with increased performance. These people have less burnout syndrome, suffer less burnout, and are capable of performance staff, at work. In view of these data, the Full Professor of Psychology of the University of Malaga, assured that it has been proven that working on emotional intelligence is profitable, since "the most predominant feeling in work is anger, with 53% compared to happiness, with 19%. When the predominant emotions in our work are negative - anger, sadness, etc. - it has been proven that performance drops between 30 and 40%".

Therefore, the psychologist insisted on the importance of creating a positive climate, regulating emotions to change actions, since we are empathic beings, our brain "copies" the emotions of others, "that is why we do not like to be with negative people". "Sometimes, making explicit a thank you, changes the work climate, or even the family climate".
