The Museum of Navarra hosted from September 11 to 14 the I Course of Modern Culture "Everyday life in Navarra in the Modern Age". Sponsored by the Government of Navarre, it was directed by Javier Azanza, Full Professor of History of Art of the School of Philosophy and Lettersand counted with the participation of several experts from the University of Navarra, the Public University of Navarra and the UNED.

From an interdisciplinary perspective, the more than 120 participants were able to approach the culture of Navarrese society in the Modern Age and delve into the art, literature, law and ways of life of the time. Fashion and housing, society, or the role of women and soldiers in this period were some of the topics addressed by specialists such as Jesús M. Usunáriz, Full Professor of Modern History at the University of Navarra; Pilar Andueza, from the University of La Rioja and collaborator of the Chair of Heritage and Navarrese Art of the School of Philosophy and Letters; José Francisco Alenza, from the Public University of Navarra; or Gloria Franco, from the Complutense University of Madrid; among others.

"The impact that this period of history left on Navarre and that remains today is unquestionable, beginning with the fact that it was then that the Kingdom of Navarre was incorporated into Castile. There were also significant changes in society and in the Economics, without forgetting that some of the great testimonies of literature, art and architecture in Navarre took place between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries," explained Professor Azanza. According to him, "the Navarrese public has once again demonstrated its commitment to culture, something for which we are very grateful".

For her part, Mercedes Jover, director of the Museum of Navarra and associate professor of the School of Philosophy and Letters, has pointed out that "this course was born with a vocation of continuity. In view of the great reception it has received from the Navarrese society, the Museum of Navarre is considering a second edition".
