Ester Díez-Sainz, PhD student of research center in Nutrition, has obtained the second award of research fundamental CTPIOD 2020-INRAe in the Conference of TransPyrenean Investigations on Obesity & Diabetes, in its 2020 edition.

programs of study Recent studies suggest that the intestinal microbiota may be involved in the protection or susceptibility to develop obesity and its comorbidities. For this reason, Díez-Sainz will study the involvement of food microRNAs and the intestinal microbiota by attempting to identify xenomiRs by metagenomics and study them in mammalian cell co-cultures. She will also analyze the bacteria that are most abundant in people with obesity as well as postbiotics, which are metabolites produced by these microorganisms.

"The final goal is to characterize microorganisms, postbiotics and xenomiRs that are associated with development obesity and its comorbidities. This will also allow us to identify potential probiotics, metabolites and microRNAs that can be used in the prevention and personalized therapy of human obesity," explains the PhD student.
