Pedro Vicente, professor at department of Economics of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, gave a course on Economics of development at the University of Navarra, organized by the Navarra Center for International Development (NCID) of the Institute for Culture and Society.

The classes covered three different strategies to address the topic of development and the fight against poverty: health and Education, finance and agriculture. As the specialist explained, these are the classic topics that have been addressed since Economics for the fight against poverty and they constitute "excellent gauges of development".

"This course is very empirical: we apply econometric methods to understand what the specific impact of a particular policy is," said Pedro Vicente. "The classes focus on identifying those policies that make sense on a theoretical level and then testing whether they can actually have the expected benefits on the internship".

Students of the Master in Economics and Financeas well as students from other careers, attended this intensive eight-hour course that focused on the study of the main topics proposed in the literature of the Economics of development.

Pedro Vicente is a professor at department of Economics of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a Research Fellow at Oxford University. He received his PhD from the University of Chicago, in 2005, at area in Econometrics and Statistics.
