An Italian deputy considers it important to "strongly express the great vitality of Christian thought".
At the University of Navarra, Paola Binetti calls for "a greater involvement of Catholics in public life in the pursuit of the common good".
"On every occasion it is appropriate to strongly express the great vitality of Christian thought, the richness of its traditions and the knowledge that the best of Europe has Christian roots". These are the words of the Italian Member of Parliament Paola Binetti, who spoke at the XXXI International Symposium of Theology of the University of Navarra "Christian Conversion and Evangelization".
Paola Binetti, also director of the department for the research Educational and Didactics of the Università Campus Bio-Medico (Rome), stated that "it is always possible to recover these roots, if we think of the three levels on which we are competent: international, national organizations, and on a broader cultural level that includes the life and behavioral styles of Christians; the interdisciplinary scientific programs of study ...".
Moreover, for this Italian deputy, "faith revitalizes in every Christian the meaning of his life and the responsibility of service to others. It helps him financial aid to understand himself".
Performance in public life
With regard to the actions of Catholics, he indicated that they must play a role "of great coherence staff, both in private and public behavior"; putting - he added - "a serious effort of cultural elaboration to move to the level of concrete political proposals, and be able to give answers that go beyond the schemes and ideologies with which we now find ourselves".
He added that Catholics should try to be "much more active in public life" and "consider politics as one of the most important areas in which to assume responsibility for the common good".
"Our society today in Europe," he said, "can live more intensely values that make reference letter the person (life), the family and society. He also exhorted to be "courageous and audacious in defending ideas that often go against the current". Finally, he considered it important to "begin again to live the responsibility we have towards society as a priority element of our pact with future generations".
