Professor Ángel Luis González García, Full Professor of Metaphysics at the University of Navarra, died unexpectedly of heart failure in Pamplona on April 16. He was born in Madrid in 1948. He was a professor of the Schools of Philosophy and Letters and Ecclesiastics of Philosophy. Those who knew him emphasize his personality, especially his kindness, capacity for work and selfless service to others.
graduate in Philosophy from the Complutense University of Madrid, defended his doctoral thesis at the University of Navarra in 1976 with which he won the Extraordinary award doctorate . He also obtained the licentiate degree and the doctorate in Theology from this academic institution in 1977, also with award Extraordinary. He was scholarship recipient of the committee Superior de Investigaciones Científicas. In 1983 he obtained by civil service examination the Chair of Metaphysics of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Malaga, of which he took possession in March of the same year, shortly after he rejoined the University of Navarra, where he has developed all his work professor and research.
He held several government positions, among others, he was Director of programs of study of the School of Philosophy and Letters (1977-1984); Vice President of the University of Navarra (1984-1991); Director of the department of Philosophy of the University of Navarra (1996); and Dean of the School of Philosophy and Letters (1996-2002). He was also appointed Expert of the ACADEMIA Program for the National accreditation of Catedráticos y Profesores Titulares de Universidad (2008-2016).
He was a member of four Societies of Philosophy and was a director of the philosophical journals yearbook Filosófico and Studia Poliana and a member of committee publishing house of others. Under his direction, two relevant collections of Philosophy of the Hispanic world have been developed: Filosófica, with 233 titles, and Pensamiento Medieval y Renacentista, with 163 titles, both from publishing house Eunsa. He also directed, in the same publishing house, the collection of Philosophical Initiation, with 27 titles, and the Dictionary of Philosophy, with 296 titles. He has also been Director of the Obras Completas, still in progress, of the Spanish philosopher Leonardo Polo (deceased in 2013). As for his own publications, he has published 38 books, in addition to book chapters and scientific articles.
He obtained 11 subsidized projects from research , and directed 67 doctoral thesis . His students and doctoral students remember his gift of committee and at the same time his respect for the freedom of one's own ideas. He participated in numerous philosophical congresses and meetings. Internationally, he taught at the Universidad de los Andes in Chile and at the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico, where he received the doctorate Honoris Causa in 2010.
