The Science Museum of the University of Navarra joins one more year the Biomarathon of Spanish Flora, an initiative promoted by the Spanish Botanical Society and that this year will be held from May 18 to 21 throughout Spain. The goal of this activity is to recognize the importance of plants for our society and the knowledge dissemination of botany in general. To this end, citizens are encouraged to take photographs of the flora during the weekend and upload them to the iNaturalist platform, where all the observations made in the different Autonomous Communities will be recorded.

In this context, the Science Museum of the University of Navarra has planned two activities for Friday May 19, in partnership with the City Council of Valle de Egüés. From 4 to 6 p.m. there will be a botanical route through Sarriguren led by Ricardo Ibáñez, Ana de Miguel, Rita Cavero and Richard framework, biologists and professors at the School Science Museum of the University of Navarra, who will show participants the plant biodiversity of the area around Sarriguren.  

"We will take a walk through the outskirts of Sarriguren to observe and recognize species of flora that grow spontaneously in the pastures, scrublands and forests of the western end of the Aranguren mountain range and we will have the opportunity to enjoy numerous orchid specimens that will surprise the attendees," says Professor Ibáñez.

In the afternoon, at 7 p.m. in the Bioclimatic building (Sarriguren orchards), the book "Orquídeas silvestres de Navarra" will be presented, a work written by the specialists Estrella Robles, Manuel Becerra and Cruz Miguel.

The III Biomarathon of Spanish Flora aims to bring together hundreds of citizens, but also associations, universities, research centers, scientific institutions and Natural Parks around the identification, dissemination of knowledge and conservation of flora.
