"Knowing and dealing with ADHD: aneducational challenge " is the degree scroll of the roundtable that took place on Wednesday, October 17 at the IES place de la Cruz. In the workshop, organized by the department of Education of the Government of Navarra and the department of Education of the University of Navarra, several experts analyzed the attention deficit disorder, which affected more than 1,700 students (1,300 boys and 400 girls) in Navarra last year.

Participants included Isabel Aracama and Elena Aguilera, counselors from the Special Education Resource Center of Navarra (CREENA); Juan Cruz Ripoll, delegate and professor at the University of Navarra; Rocío Sánchez-Carpintero, neuropediatrician at the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, and Guillem García Badía, a student teacher at the academic center who suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Guillem Garcia Badia himself explained during his speech that "early detection of ADHD is of vital importance to intervene as soon as possible, thus avoiding many problems", although he valued that people with this disorder can do more things throughout the day because "they move more".

He also wanted to talk about the disorder from the educational point of view and stressed that it is essential that "teachers know and understand ADHD, as they can help students to move forward, otherwise they can harm their academic future and staff".

For her part, the neuropediatrician of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra, Rocío Sánchez-Carpintero, stressed that "ADHD is not a current fad and that only half of the schoolchildren who suffer from it receive treatment". In this sense, the neuropediatrician pointed out that the origin of ADHD is mainly due to genetic factors since "it has been effectively proven by means of programs of study carried out in pairs of identical and dissimilar twins".

In June, the Foral Order 65/2012 was published with instructions for the educational centers of Pre-school Education , Primary Education , Secondary Education and Vocational training , on the educational attention and assessment of the student body with specific educational support needs for presenting DEA (Specific Learning Difficulties) or ADHD.
