Nine students from the School of Philosophy and Letters participate in a Summer School at the Egyptian Museum in Turin

For three days they attended theoretical sessions given by renowned experts in Egyptology and curators of this museum institution.

Nine students from the School of School Philosophy Letters of the University of Navarra have participated in the Summer School organized by the Egyptian Museum of Turin , one of the most prominent institutions worldwide in the field of Egyptology, in partnership with the University of Navarra. This year, the academic center has been the only institution to teaching superior who has participated in this exclusive initiative.

Accompanied by Professor Javier Andreu , Full Professor of Ancient History and director of the Diploma in Archaeology , for three days, our students have received training to position The museum's renowned specialists participated in theoretical sessions that expanded their knowledge of Ancient Egypt. They also had the opportunity to access spaces and resources usually reserved for researchers and industry professionals.

On Monday the 9th, after a few words of welcome from Federico Zaina and Enrico Ferraris , they delved into the geography and history of ancient Egypt with the help of Johannes Auenmüller . In the afternoon, the participants had a visit guided tour of the Museum's collection behind closed doors, where they were able to delve deeper into the context and richness of the Egyptian heritage on display.

In the second workshop , our students approached the current tools for the research Egyptological, in a session given by Alessandro Girardi . Beppe Moiso and Tommaso Montonati gave an overview of the history of the archaeological work the institution has carried out in Egypt in recent times and the archives it holds. They also attended a class to position by Paolo Del Vesco , who introduced them to the new methodologies of research Archaeological. In the afternoon, Cedric Gobeil presented the findings and research carried out at the Deir el-Medina site, project of reference letter of the Egyptian Museum, corresponding to a neighborhood of artisans who worked on the construction of the Valley of the Kings in the New Kingdom. They then attended a class on ancient Egyptian art, position by Paolo Marini.

On Wednesday, our students delved into topics such as domestic cults, in a session taught by Paolo Del Vesco ; magic and medicine in ancient Egypt, position by Martina Terzoli ; and the administrative functioning of the Egyptian Museum in Turin, led by Samanta Isaia . In the afternoon, and to conclude the experience, framework Rossani introduced the students to the management of the Museum's collections. Sara Aicardi concluded with a session on the restoration of archaeological pieces and a visit guided tour of the institution's warehouses, restoration laboratories and photo library.

Professor Javier Andreu has valued the activity in a very positive way: “For the students, training with the heads of an institution as prestigious and relevant as the Egyptian Museum of Turin and having the opportunity to see first-hand the materials on display, as well as the photo library, the restoration rooms or the warehouses, has been an extraordinary complement to their training ”.

Naiara Monroy , student of the Degree in History and of Diploma in Archaeology, is one of the students participating in the course. She states that “this has been an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into the area of studying Egyptology, a world I was unaware of and which I look forward to continuing to explore. Accompanied by great professionals, we have addressed topics such as religion, ritual practices, and ancient Egyptian art. In addition, we have had direct access to exceptional collections that have allowed us to approach the management heritage and continue learning about archaeology. It has been a very valuable experience for our training ”.

A statement shared by Maddi Aguirre , another of the participating students: "It has been a very enriching experience and constant learning in the field of Egyptology. We have had the privilege of meeting true professionals who were open to answering our questions and helping in whatever was necessary. In addition to enjoying the trip and learning, I have acquired a valuable career guidance and very good contacts.”
