Pamplona was the chosen venue for a course at update that brought together forty primary care physicians from the northern region, which includes specialists from Navarra, the Basque Country, La Rioja and Aragón, on September 14 and 15.

The conference, organized by the Simulation Center of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra at partnership with Esteve Pharmaceutics, focused on urgent situations in primary care, which affect the specialists' ability to act and process information. This, together with the fact that a team is involved multidisciplinary, requires planning so that, when it comes to dealing with real situations, everything goes perfectly. "Physicians need good coordination and clear communication, which, fortunately, we can train before attending a patient," says Dr. Jesús Pueyo, anesthesiologist and coordinator of the course.

For this purpose, the team professor and the Simulation Center's technical team staff prepared five workshops with different situations that physicians may encounter in their practices: heart failure, stroke, airway obstructions and anaphylactic shock.

Training with the most advanced simulation equipment

One of the simulators used during the course is Harvey, a full-size mannequin that simulates almost any subject of cardiac disease. It is a state-of-the-art equipment that allows training of 50 different clinical states, 10 detailed standardized patient cases for the teaching and the assessment, as well as enhanced physical examination findings.

"For both professionals and students preparing to become physicians, it is an advantage to have such innovative facilities and advanced equipment, as they are of great financial aid value in ensuring the safety of the actual patient," explains Dr. Pueyo.

The Center also has, among others, simulators such as Vimedix, the only ultrasound simulator that offers the possibility of performing transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography and abdominopelvic examinations on a single platform.
