Janusz Stepnowski, who holds a doctorate in Canon Law from the University of Navarra, has been appointed by Pope Benedict XVI as Bishop of Lomza, Poland.

Stepnowski was born in 1958 in Ostroleka (Poland) and was ordained a priest in 1985. During the years 1985-1988 he studied at the University of Navarra (Spain), where he received his doctorate at Canon Law.

In 1988-89 he served in the Diocese of Terni (Italy), while completing his programs of study at the University for Foreigners in Perugia. In 1989 he joined the Congregation for Bishops, where he has been manager Office until the present. Since 1990, he has been chaplain of the convent of the Daughters of the presentation in Rome. In 2005 he was appointed Prelate of Honor of His Holiness.
