Francisco Mangado, Navarrese architect graduate at the School of Architecture of the University of Navarra and professor at the University of Navarra, will receive the award of Spanish Architecture 2017 for the design and the construction of the Congress Palace and Hotel in Palma de Mallorca.

The architect shares this award with his colleagues, Luis Moreno and Emilio Tuñón, for their design and construction of the Royal Collections Museum. The three architects will receive this award in the auditorium of the Wanda Metropolitano stadium.

The jury highlighted both projects "their ability to offer rich and fluid interior spaces, and to assume a great confluence of public, integrating into very different contexts, such as the monumental environment of Madrid and the urban landscape of the coast of Palma".

This recognition, together with the award of Spanish Urbanism, is awarded by the committee Superior de los Colegios de Arquitectos de España (CSCAE), and is one of the most important awards in Spanish architecture.

"This meeting of architecture wants to show how architects are available to the whole society and work for the improvement and adaptation of our cities to new technological and social needs, being a public value of the excellent work made by Spanish architects," they say from the CSCAE.

Another recognition of its prestigious degree program

This is the second time Mangado has received this recognition. He was awarded in 2009 for the Spanish pavilion at the Zaragoza Expo in 2008. Until 2013 he was the only architect from Navarre to receive this award.

Since graduating from School of Architecture in 1981, Francisco Mangado has accumulated numerous awards, both nationally and internationally.

This last award adds to others such as: the Kunstpreis 2017 (award of Art), in the category of Architecture, award International of Architecture 'Andrea Palladio', award FAD, Construmat, the award National of Architecture, the award Copper, the Giancarlo Ius Gold Medal awarded by the UIA and the 'Chicago Athenaeum'. He has also been appointed as an international honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA).

However, the architect also develops his degree program in the field of teaching. He has been a professor at School of Architecture since 1982, has been visiting professor at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor of Architecture at School of Architecture at Yale University and L'École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, among others. In 2015, he was appointed coordinator of Bienales de Arquitectura de España. And in 2015, the CSCAE awarded the Fundación Arquitectura y Sociedad, which he founded in 2008.
