The Sigma Theta Tau (Sigma) International Honor Society of Nursing has recognized as an honorary member School of Nursing professor Hildegart Gonzalez, along with 3 other individuals from different institutions.

Professor Hildegart thus joins the select group of individuals honored as Honorary Members of Sigma, a non-profit organization whose mission statement is to develop nursing leaders anywhere in the world. This recognition is one of Sigma's most prestigious, reserved for leaders outside the nursing profession who have demonstrated sustained and extraordinary contributions to the care of people globally or nationally. Since its founding in 1976, only a select group of individuals has been honored with this lifetime recognition.

The official naming will take place during Sigma's 48th Biennial Convention, to be held November 8-11, 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.

According to Sigma director Lucas M. Davis, these new Honorary Members "embody the very spirit of Sigma's mission statement : to promote global health and celebrate the transformative power of nursing.

For the School of Nursing it is a new source of pride to recognize Professor Hildegart Gonzalez, which evidences the commitment to the transformative power of nursing through leadership in care.
