Cardinal Blázquez: "A helpful, humble and dedicated person is always a living face of Jesus Christ".
16 students of the Schools Ecclesiastical seminar International Bidasoa, students of the University of Navarra, receive the diaconate ordination.
"A helpful, humble and dedicated person is always a living face of Jesus Christ," said Cardinal Ricardo Blázquez, Archbishop of Valladolid and president of the Spanish Episcopal lecture , during the diaconate ordination of 15 seminarians studying at the University of Navarra. The ceremony, held on Saturday, February 16, in the Church of San Nicolás in Pamplona, was attended by more than 400 people. In addition, on Sunday, February 17, the bishop of Juigalpa (Nicaragua), Mons. René Sándigo, conferred the diaconate ordination to the seminarian of his diocese, Edwin Jesús Suárez, at the seminar Bidasoa International. A total of 16 students from ten different countries were ordained.
Ricardo Blázquez explained in his homily that the "surprise of vocation," which the candidates to the diaconate discovered one day, was definitively consolidated in the Church during the ceremony they were celebrating. And he reminded the seminarians of the mission statement for which they were to be ordained, so that at submit their life in God's hands "would be fruitful". He also encouraged them to be servants, as Jesus did, and to be "a transparency of the Lord" who passes by their side.
He showed his gratitude for the invitation to administer the diaconate to these young people, in the course of the thirtieth anniversary of seminar International Bidasoa. He also thanked all those present in the Church of St. Nicholas and those who were following the celebration from different countries of the world through the live broadcast.
He also dedicated a few words to the pastor, César Magaña; to the Vicar of Opus Dei present at the celebration; and to the bishops of the dioceses of the seminarians. Bishop Roque Costa, auxiliary bishop of Rio de Janeiro, and Bishop Sócrates René Sándigo, bishop of Juigalpa (Nicaragua), concelebrated, as well as more than a hundred priests.
The 16 new deacons, who have been formed at seminar Bidasoa International, are: Fernando Henrique Cardoso (Brazil), José Guilherme Carvalho (Brazil), Jorge Armando Castro (Colombia), José Julong Chen (China), José Manuel García (El Salvador), Nicolás Armando Gastaldi (Uruguay), Juan Pablo Hernández (Venezuela), Erick Arturo Linares (El Salvador), Martin Haijing Pan (China), Javier Quicaña (Peru), Engels Antonio Romero (Nicaragua), Javier Fernando Salcedo (Ecuador), Ian Silva (Brazil), Luis Enrique Valle (El Salvador), Satheesh Varghese (India) and Edwin Jesús Suárez (Nicaragua).
They join the eleven bishops and more than 600 priests who have been trained at seminar International Bidasoa and now serve the Church in different dioceses around the world.
