The rally driver has participated in the act of presentation of the Chair of business Volkswagen Navarra-University of Navarra.

"When two leaders join forces the result is solid and beneficial for society". This was stated today by rally driver Carlos Sainz on the occasion of the presentation of the Chair of business Volkswagen Navarra-University of Navarra, which after more than twelve years focused on quality, will promote, through research and teaching, excellence in all aspects of organizations.

The 'godfather' of the new Chair, which since its creation has carried out more than a hundred projects of research, 40 scientific articles and knowledge dissemination and nine doctoral thesis , cited the University of Navarra as "an example where young people can leave well trained and make this country better". In this regard, he encouraged the University and Volkswagen"to teach students to fight for what they believe in." "Adversity is fought with work, perseverance, enthusiasm, professionalism, method, effort and passion," he added.

In his opinion, in order to learn it is essential to look and listen to other countries, "but the best is not always outside". "We Spaniards are capable of much more than we think and we should not have complexes when it comes to innovating".

Innovating our way out of the crisis

In addition to the 1990 and 1992 World Rally Champion, and 2010 Dakar Rally champion, the event was attended by Francisco J. García Sanz, member of the Executive committee of group Volkswagen and president of ANFAC (association Spanish Automobile Manufacturers); Yolanda Barcina, president of the Government of Navarre; and Ángel J. Gómez-Montoro, President of the University of Navarre.

"The training andinnovation are two important factors that bring new knowledge to the market", highlighted Francisco J. García Sanz, who added that the automotive sector is ready to play a role core topic to get out of the economic crisis. Against this backdrop, he summarized the strategy of group VW based on the customer-oriented research . "Only the companies that innovate the most will occupy an advantageous status in this degree program background."

In the same vein, the President emphasized that "university and business are called to understand and appreciate each other." The goal of this Chair, he explained, is "promote the dialogue and the work in common between two of the biggest institutions of Navarre, capable of generating a knowledge anda quality research to dispose it to the impulse and development of the society in general, and of the Community of Navarre in particular".

President Yolanda Barcina closed the ceremony by highlighting the importance of both organizations in the future of Navarra. "This Chair is the best reflection of how our society is advancing, increasingly linked to knowledge, to research and to the promotion of talents".
