The project of care for polymedicated patients of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra receives the award to the Best Pharmacy Initiatives of 2013 in the section of Pharmaceutical Care and Education healthcare. This award , which is awarded each year by Correo Farmacéutico, one of the most widely distributed publications among the sector's professions, recognizes ideas, programs and experiences that promote development and the quality of pharmaceutical services. On this occasion, the publication wanted to distinguish this awareness campaign on the appropriate use of medicines in chronic patients.
The School of Pharmacy elaborated this project in partnership with the high school Official Pharmacists of Navarra, the department of Health of the Government of Navarra and Cinfa. Since its launch in 2013, this program framed within the new model of healthcare in Navarra, has been aimed at offering Education healthcare to chronic patients taking four or more medications. The goal is to ensure that patients are aware of the drugs they are taking (identification, indication, dosage and form of administration) in order to reinforce the efficacy of their treatment.
For Adela Lopez de Cerain, dean of the School Pharmacy and who collected the award, this award "is a recognition of the role of the pharmacist in the Education health of the population, an aspect that is taken care of in the Degree Pharmacy of the University of Navarra through subjects such as Pharmaceutical Care or Public Health, among others".
