Last March 11, took place in Jaén, the act of submission of the XIV award to the Pedagogical Innovation and research , organized by the group of Attendis schools.

The first award awarded by the publishing house Casals was for the project Arjé of the high school Miravalles-El Redín of Pamplona. In the work, conceived four years ago by Mª Ángeles Sánchez-Ostiz, professor of the high school Pamplona and associate professor of the School of Education and PsychologyHelena Moro Cano, 4th year student of the double Degree in Education Primary and Pedagogy of the same School.

Arjé - origin, in Greek - is a project of teaching of the lexicon and orthography in an integrated way from the Greco-Latin etymologies. It uses Classical Antiquity as a thread and framework scenario for the teaching of the contents. "The project arose from the need to find a method for students to work on spelling in a more reflective way, with activities to prevent spelling errors and not corrective activities," says Professor Sánchez-Ostiz.

Helena Moro's role at project, has consisted in the elaboration of the material used by the students in 5th grade of Education Primary. It is a book that includes the orthographic content that the students are expected to master throughout the course. "It contains the story adapted from the works of Hercules, written by Mª Ángeles, as well as a set of activities organized in four groups: Decathlon, which includes the more mechanical work activities; Scriptorium, where the students work on written expression and the application of the words learned; Sapere aude, activities to expand knowledge or work of classical culture; and, finally, Partibus lingua, where they work on training of words and the expansion of vocabulary based on prefixes and suffixes," says the student herself. Each unit in this book revolves around one or two Latin roots, which are always accompanied by two Greek or Latin expressions that the students learn. In addition to working on the roots, each unit contains a section of training of words, so that the students are increasing their lexical wealth.

The project has been used for 4 years at high school Miravalles in Pamplona, where it has obtained very positive results, including a significant decrease in spelling mistakes as well as an increase in vocabulary and an increase in the interest and motivation of the students towards spelling.
