José Morales, professor of Dogmatic Theology at the School of Theology of the University of Navarra, has published the second edition of his work Newman (1801-1890). It is a biography of the British Cardinal John Henry Newman, beatified by Pope Benedict XVI last Sunday, September 19, 2010, during his visit to the United Kingdom.

The book, which consists of 24 chapters, was first published in 1990 on the occasion of the first centenary of the Cardinal's death. In 1998 it was translated into Italian by Luis Dapelo under the degree scroll John Henry Newman. La vita.

What's new in the edition

This new edition includes a foreword by the author, in which he describes the growth of Newman's significance in the Christian world. It also includes a appendix on the chronology of Newman's life, a list of the Cardinal's published works and a list of those that have been translated into Spanish.

José Morales was born in Madrid in 1934. He received his doctorate in Law and Theology and was ordained to the priesthood in 1961. He carried out his pastoral work in Manila (Philippines) from 1964 to 1967. At the end of that year he joined the University of Navarra, where he is Full Professor of Dogmatic Theology and has been director of department of Fundamental and Dogmatic Theology during the period 1993-1999.

Since joining School of Theology he has worked directly in four main areas. Two of these - topics in fundamental theology and theological method as well as reflection on John H. Newman - occupy most of his extensive bibliography. The other two areas are relatively recent in his study: the theology of creation and the theology of religions.
