The School of Pharmacy and the Clínica Universidad de Navarra have launched an innovationproject professor at Education nutritional. This is a pioneering pilot experience framed in the subject Education nutritional of the Degree of Human Nutrition and Dietetics, initiated in the 2014-2015 academic year.
During this second edition of the subject, 54 students, both from Degree of Human Nutrition and Dietetics (3rd year) and the double Degree in Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics (6th year), have participated in the experience. The goal is that students acquire skills in dietary interviewing of healthy people in a real health environment, know how to interpret the data collected and prepare reports with guidelines for improving the patron saint food.
This activity arises from framework of project "Por una comida sana, tú decides", launched in 2012 and which aims to make the university a healthy environment for both employees and students.
Those responsible for the project are Professors Susana Santiago and Itziar Zazpe, from the department of Food Science and Physiology of the School of Pharmacy, and Doctors Alejandro Fernández-Montero and Ana Rodríguez, from the Clinical training Unit and the department of Medicine of business, respectively, both from the Clínica Universidad de Navarra.
"Very positive and enriching experience."Throughout the project the students received various training sessions on how to conduct the dietary interview, what is the role of the dietitian-nutritionist in the doctor's offices of business and how the data should be collected through the dietary surveys, among others.
The interviews conducted by the students were supervised by the professors, who also reviewed the reports that were finally sent to the workers from the Medical Service of business of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra.
In the overall assessment of project it is noted that students value the opportunity to practice in real environments before the tutored stays, financial aid to identify the differences between theory and internship, it gives them a perception of autonomy and allows them to recognize the role of the dietitian-nutritionist. In addition, they value the support and supervision of professors and physicians.
