The Navarre Academy of Gastronomy honors the University's project for its research health and alcohol consumption

The project at the University of Navarra, led byMiguel Ángel Martínez-González, Full Professor Preventive Medicine and Public Health , received the research award on Thursday, April 23, research the 18th annual awards ceremony of the Navarre Academy of Gastronomy. The submission ceremony, which brought together 150 guests and was supported by political authorities and collaborating organizations from Navarra, recognized the scientific work of the UNATI team in studying the effects of alcohol consumption on health.
In his remarks after accepting the award, Dr. Martínez-González described the recognition as an “impressive endorsement” for a research aims to be the most significant research conducted in Spain on the relationship between alcohol consumption and health. Along the same lines, the Academy’s president, Martín Sarobe, explained the rationale behind the award given to project by emphasizing that “there is no future for gastronomy without knowledge.”
For his part, José María Aierdi, the Navarre Regional Government’s Minister of development and the Environment, highlighted the importance of integrating health research into the practices and “know-how” of Navarre’s gastronomic culture. “These accolades are the best reflection of how Navarre’s agri-food sector must remain true to its roots, while also having the courage to look to the future with imagination and ambition.”
In this edition, the University of Navarra shared this recognition with leading professionals in the sector, including Koldo Rodero, who was named Best Head Chef; Kamiku Cheese Shop, named Best Local Product; La Despensa, named Best Bar; and El Rincón del Iruña, named Best Cocktail Bar. The submission these awards was sponsored by Caja Rural de Navarra’s Social Action program and supported by Castillo de Monteagudo, Reyno Gourmet, and Bodegas Ochoa.
