300 people with disabilities experience the eclipse in an inclusive way

300 people with disabilities gathered today at the Aspace centerin Cizur to experience the historic moment of the solar eclipse—but in this case, in an inclusive way. The “ project ” was designed by the University of Navarra Science Museum  partnership in collaboration with theIddeas Foundation, ONCE, and Aspace Navarra, to create—from scratch—an experience accessible to all audiences.

Participants have accessto numerous resources to enjoy this event through their different senses. On the table, models of the Earth, the Moon, and the Sun are passed from hand to hand: reliefs and textures that explain how the phenomenon occurs. At the same time, a LightSound device translates the dimming of the light into an increasingly lower-pitched sound, while a narrator and a sign language interpreter from language guide participants through each phase as it unfolds in the sky. Those who need them also have access to individual induction loops, headphones, and materials in easy-to-read format with pictograms.

The event was attended byCarmen Maeztu, the Navarre Government’s Minister of Social Rights, Social Economics , and employment . Additionally, Ignacio López-Goñi and Luis Casado,sciencecommunicators specializing insciencecommunicationand inclusion, were responsible for explaining the different phases of this historic phenomenon to the attendees.
