“El año sacerdotal contribuirá a la renovación e interiorización de la fe y el compromiso”, afirma el obispo auxiliar de Getafe
"The Year for Priests will contribute to the renewal and interiorization of faith and commitment," says the auxiliary bishop of Getafe.
Bishop Rafael Zornoza emphasizes at the University of Navarra that "thanks to the Second Vatican Council, the laity can take on tasks such as evangelization".
"Rafael Zornoza, auxiliary bishop of Getafe, during an academic workshop of the School of Theology, said at the University of Navarra. In this sense, he explained that the events to be held until June 19, 2010 "intend to evoke the image of the priest as a person committed to the good and care of society.
On the other hand, Bishop Zornoza expressed the need for the emergence of priest vocations. "They represent Jesus Christ himself and have as mission statement to govern, teach and sanctify". He recalled that in Europe there is a strong demand for this figure "so that the Church can evangelize and bring the good of salvation to all".
He also emphasized the support that the laity can give them: "Thanks to the impulse of the Second Vatican Council, the laity are more aware of their vocation and mission statement in the world. In this way, they can make tasks such as evangelization their own".
The auxiliary bishop of Getafe made these statements on the occasion of the workshop "The ministerial priesthood in the mission statement of the Church", organized by the School of Theology of the University of Navarra on the occasion of the Year for Priests. The event counted with the participation of specialists such as Santiago del Cura, from the School of Theology of Northern Spain (Burgos) and the professors of the University of Navarra Pedro Rodríguez, Lucas F. Mateo-Seco and Félix María Arocena.
