Professor José Ullán, Full Professor of Anatomy of the School of Medicine of the University of Navarra, has died in Valladolid at the age of 76. Born in Salamanca, he graduated in Medicine from the University of Salamanca in 1971 and later moved to Pamplona, where he obtained the doctorate with award Extraordinary.

In 1978 he began teaching class at the School of Medicine, where he dedicated almost four decades to the training of future professionals in Anatomy, Embryology and Neuroanatomy, and delved into the study of the nervous system, one of the areas to which he gave himself with more enthusiasm and interest until his retirement in 2017.

"Dr. Ullán deployed an intense work professor, theoretical and internship, which he enjoyed enormously. In addition, he will be eternally remembered for his precise and detailed drawings, which he made with both hands," recalls Professor Elisa Mengual. "At attention he was a cordial and permanently smiling person, cheerful and with a great sense of humor, affectionate and close to his students. For the teachers at department he was a reference for everything he knew and, above all, because he was always willing to clarify a doubt, to explain something, to approach the dissection conference room and help us. This is something we will always be grateful for".

For 17 years, Dr. José Ullán moved to Mexico to contribute to the start-up and subsequent development of the School of Medicine at the Universidad Panamericana, from 1995 to 2012. During that time, every two years or so, he returned to the University to teach a part of the subject and after his final return he became position of the subject of Anatomy in the School of Engineering-Tecnun, in the Degree of Biomedical Engineering, between 2011 and 2014.

Throughout his academic career, he directed nine doctoral thesis and published more than 30 scientific articles on the vegetative nervous system and pain, among others. He also published four books and several multimedia computer applications for teaching Anatomy.
