"The consequences in Spain of the Strasbourg sentence on the use of the crucifix will depend to a great extent on the reaction of Catholics". This was stated at the University of Navarra by Full Professor Andrés Ollero, on the occasion of the judgment of the European Court of Human Rights, which has ratified that the presence of crucifixes in the classrooms of Italian schools does not violate the right and freedom of parents.

The Full Professor of Philosophy of Law of the University Rey Juan Carlos added that "we are living an internal European cultural tension and it depends on the reaction capacity of the Spanish Catholic citizens themselves whether the result will be one or the other. If Catholics allow themselves to be subjugated, they will be subjugated; this is inevitable".

On the other hand, he pointed out that the decision is unthinkable without the energetic reaction of the Italian government "which has gained the support of 21 countries, including Russia, which have supported it in its resource against a unanimous judgment that had occurred".

Professor Andrés Ollero, director of the magazine Persona y Derecho of the University of Navarra, pointed out that this is a relevant decision, due to the circumstances in which it has occurred. "There is a previous unanimous ruling by the conference room that brought this case and now the plenary session of the Executive Council, called great conference room, rules by 15 to 2 quite the opposite. This highlights to what extent in Europe there is a B bewilderment at the moment," he explained.

He also spoke of "an attempt, which has been demonstrated as a minority, to impose secularism, for the sake of a presumed neutrality that denies pluralism".

Andrés Ollero gave a lecture at the academic center lecture on "Religious symbols in public spaces: ethical-legal argumentation", as part of an international symposium on "Panorama of the programs of study of speech". At the meeting, experts from various countries discussed the treatment given in the press in Germany, Italy, Canada and Spain to the presence of religious symbols in public spaces.

The symposium was organized by the group Análisis del speech of the University of Navarra (GRADUN), part of the Institute for Culture and Society (ICS) of the academic center, and by the Seminar für Übersetzen und Dolmetschen of the University of Heidelberg.
