Ana Marta Gonzalez, principal investigator of project 'Emotional culture and identity' of the Institute for Culture and Society and professor at department of Philosophy, has published the book The Ethical Articulation of Social Lifea volume that gathers the keys to the ethical nature of social life.

The author, whose research moves at the intersection between Philosophy moral and social sciences, proposes to highlight in this work one of the most relevant issues today in the face of the advance of various technocratic forms of organization: the moral nature of the social bond. The researcher argues that the individualization suffered by society does not disable the person to recognize more duties than those he/she has towards him/herself.

Faced with this challenge and in dialogue with the classics of the moral Philosophy , Ana Marta González delves into the concept of duty and argues that recognizing that we are indebted to one another is an essential element of authentic solidarity.

Relationship between ethics and religion

In addition, the book sample argues that delving into the moral nature of the social bond is not only a necessary antidote to technocracy, but also an essential task in order to clarify the relationship between ethics and religion. Especially at a time when for many sectors of public opinion, religion is presented as a dangerous reality for human and civilized coexistence, according to the author.

Ana Marta González is principal investigator of project 'Emotional culture and identity' of the ICS, funded by Zurich Insurance, and professor of Philosophy Moral at department of Philosophy of the University of Navarra. She is also academic director of the Social Trends Institute and author of numerous articles in specialized journals. Her most recent monographs include Civil Society and Normativity. David Hume's social theory ( Dykinson 2013), The Emotions and Cultural Analysis (Ashgate, 2012) or Culture as mediation. Kant on nature, culture, and morality (Olms, 2011).
