Tribute to Full Professor Leonardo Polo, recently deceased
Colleagues and friends remembered the professor, considered one of the most relevant Spanish philosophers.
The University of Navarra paid tribute to Full Professor Leonardo Polo, who died on February 9 at the age of 87. Colleagues and friends wanted to pay a last tribute in memory of the professor, considered one of the most important Spanish philosophers of our time.
The first to speak at the event was Ángel Luis González, disciple of Polo and Full Professor of Metaphysics at the University of Navarra, who highlighted "Polo's ability to listen to his interlocutor". "Not only did he understand in depth what was being said to him, but he also pursued the thought that was exposed to him; and hence his answers were sometimes surprising and unexpected for those who entered into dialogue with him," explained Full Professor.
Then, Juan Agustín García, Full Professor of Philosophy of the University of Malaga, and Ignacio Falgueras, Full Professor of History of Modern and Contemporary Philosophy at the same center, offered a memory of the honoree and highlighted his importance in the programs of study of Philosophy, such as sample the creation of the Institute of Philosophical programs of study Leonardo Polo based in Malaga.
Next, Alejandro Llano, Full Professor of Metaphysics at the University of Navarra, remembered him as "a person who always tried to make others approach the truth and not himself"; while Rafael Alvira, Full Professor of Philosophy and director of department of Philosophy of the University of Navarra, focused his speech on the relevance of Polo for the philosophical section of the center itself in which"he left a mark that will be indelible".
Finally, President, Alfonso Sánchez-Tabernero, described Full Professor as a "wise and humble" person, who also knew how to "guide and motivate" all his colleagues, disciples and students.
Full Professor of History of the Philosophy of the University of Navarra from 1954 to 1997, Leonardo Polo was the first professor of the department of Philosophy. Author of 44 books, 29 chapters in books and 58 scientific articles, he was distinguished in 2008 with the Cross of Carlos III the Noble, for his work and contribution to development, projection and prestige of Navarra.
