A workshop will analyze adapted sports as a "driving force for social inclusion".

This workshop, framed in a project of research of the University of Navarra, counts with the partnership of the Rafa Nadal Foundation, Special Olympics and the high school Navarro del Deporte of the Government of Navarra.

This is the of the Education goal workshop 'Adapted sport, an engine for social inclusion', organized by the School of and Psychology Education of the University of Navarra.

"We want to promote and help promote the knowledge within the field of Adapted Sport, sincethe internship sports in groups with functional diversity financial aid to face with a positive mentality all the challenges that athletes and their families face on a daily basis. Therefore, and aware of the importance of sport in the lives of these athletes, we want to promote discussion among professionals, athletes, families, educators and the general public to continue generating a deeper knowledge on adapted sport", explains Apolinar Varela, professor of accredited specialization of Sport of Degree in Education Primary of the University of Navarra. 

goal In order to address different perspectives, the workshop will have a round table format colloquium, which will be divided into four blocks. The first will present the project of research in which this workshop is framed; in the second, the guests will present their own professional experience as athletes and teachers of judo, tennis, and as part of the Special Olympics organization. In the third block, two representatives of high school Navarre Sports and the Navarre Federation of Adapted Sports will participate respectively; and finally, the participants will reflect on the vision of the athletes with functional diversity themselves and what impact the practice of sports generates in their lives.

The workshop, which will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 11, 2022, is aimed at students and professionals of the Education, families and anyone interested. It will be held at classroom Siemens Gamesa at the University of Navarra. A workshop framed within a new project of research

This workshop has the partnership of the Rafa Nadal Foundation, Special Olympics and the high school Navarro del Deporte of the Government of Navarra; and is part of the project of research 'El Deporte Adaptado como tool de Bienestar e Inclusión de Deportistas con Discapacidad Intelectual. A case study on the program 'More than tennis' of group of research Neurodevelopment and Learning.

"The fundamental goal of this project is to help the More Than Tennis community and thus continue to improve the program and the lives of athletes. In addition, by participating in this project, all the people who in one way or another participate in the program can in turn be an example to other people, families and professionals of other initiatives and to society in general," says the main researcher of project, Apolinar Varela.
