Educational workshops in the cloister of the Pamplona Cathedral

REPORT
The courses, developed by students of the University of Navarra, aim to make young people recognize the value of preserving the historical and cultural heritage.

Some 246 primary and secondary school students are participating in educational workshops in the cloister of the Cathedral of Pamplona. The courses, organized by students from Degree and Master's Degree of the School of Education and Psychology of the University of Navarra, aim to make young people aware of the cultural value of the historical heritage through a more participatory teaching .

The centers participating in the workshops are CP San Francisco, CP Vázquez de Mella, high school Santo Tomás Dominicas, IES - BHI Mendillorri and the high school de Education Especial El Molino.

Knowing where the monks of the Cathedral ate or who are the carved figures that live in it, elaborating a declaration in which they commit themselves as citizens to preserve the heritage or creating informative postcards for pilgrims who walk the Camino de Santiago are some of the questions and activities in which the educational centers will participate.

These workshops are part of the project of research-educational action around the restoration of the Gothic cloister of the cathedral of Pamplona. The work, developed by professors and students of the University at partnership with the Foundation for the Conservation of the Historical Heritage of Navarra, has started with the design and the pilot application of this program of visits-workshops (taught in Spanish, Basque and English) aimed at educational centers of different stages and characteristics.

The purpose is to create an emotional bond and awaken the curiosity and creativity necessary to develop attitudes that contribute to the appreciation and conservation of cultural heritage."

The workshops have been given by the students of the Degrees of Education Carmen Basanta, Alicia Encío, Leyre Abad and the student of Master's Degree MónicaIbáñez, as part of their work End of Degree, under the supervision of the teachers Carmen Urpi, Ana Costa, Ruth Breeze and Ignacio Perlado.

language Through artistic, playful and participatory methodologies, the Content and Language Integrated Learning methodology (CLIL/CLIL) and the problem-based learning (PBL), we have sought to recognize the importance of preserving the historical and cultural heritage through the restoration works of the cloister and to discover professions related to them.

It also aims to show the importance of the Cathedral of Pamplona and its cloister as enclaves within the medieval pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostela; to know the musical iconography; to discover materials and artistic techniques used in the leave Age average that facilitate the knowledge of history, etc.

 

Final Projects Degree

Leyre Abad, a student in the 4th year of Education Primary and currently studying accredited specialization Attention to diversity, focuses her work End of Degree "on reflecting on the possibilities offered by musical iconography as a starting point for complex learning that integrates artistic experiences (plastic and musical)".

For her part, Carmen Basanta, a 6th year student of the double Degree of Pedagogy and Education Primary, has as goal of her first TFG "to collect some conclusions or essential keys of action for projects of Education patrimonial in contexts of conservation and restoration". In her second work she has proposed a proposal of Education Patrimonial for students of 4th of Education Primary in order to bring the cloister of the Cathedral to student body with the purpose to "create an emotional bond and awaken the curiosity and creativity necessary to develop attitudes that contribute to the evaluation and conservation not only of the cloister, but of the cultural heritage as a whole".

My TFG is focused on reflecting on the possibilities offered by musical iconography as a starting point for a complex learning process that integrates artistic (plastic and musical) experiences".

Elaborating a proposal of Education Formal is also the goal of her colleague at Degree, Alicia Encío. In her case, she focuses on the use of CLIL methodology, through the didactics of social sciences, taking as an example the Camino de Santiago as it passes through Navarra.

Finally, Mónica Ibáñez, a student of Master's Degree University in academic staff, aims to offer educational activities in the cloister of the Cathedral of Pamplona to the educational centers of Education Compulsory Secondary Education. As an initial approach, Monica explores an overview of educational activities in heritage spaces similar to the cathedral, with some significant examples, to finally propose a contemporary vision of art, and some pedagogical workshops focused on learning historical, musical and artistic concepts.
