The University, among the world's top 100 universities for its impact on the fight against poverty and hunger
A Times Higher Education ranking has assessed the university's contribution to the UN Sustainable Goals development
The University of Navarra is among the top 100 universities in the world for its contribution to the UN's Sustainable development Goals related to the fight against hunger (goal 2), where it is ranked 51st, and the fight against poverty (goal 1), with 92nd place. This is highlighted in the second edition of the Times Higher Education 2020 impact ranking, in which some 767 universities from 85 countries participate.
Likewise, the academic center has improved its global position in the ranking with respect to the previous year and has gone from 201-300 to 101-200 in the world. It stands out in goals 11, Sustainable Cities and Communities; 3, Health and Wellbeing; and in the same commitment to the Sustainable development Goals (goal 17). For the assessment, THE analyzed four areas: the research made with respect to the Sustainable development Goals, how the center is governed with respect to them, the teaching given and the impact the university has on society.
Among the initiatives evaluated by Times Higher Education in the contribution of the University of Navarra to the fight against poverty are the Fuel Freedom Chair for Energy and Social Development and the Africa Initiative of IESE; the contribution to sustainability of some of the companies in which Innovation Factory participates (such as metal78); the international partnership of the Navarra Center for International Development (NCID) of ICS or the local solidarity projects of Tantaka (such as the Repair of Deteriorated Housing).
Regarding the role in the fight against hunger, the following were evaluated: the intense research in Nutrition carried out by the University; the work of groups such as Chair Timac Agro of the School of Science or the Biodevices and MEMS Group of the Ceitand the initiative that promotes healthy living among students and employees "Por una comida sana, tú decides" (For a healthy meal, you decide). Times Higher Education and the Sustainable Development Goals developmentThe Times Higher Education impact ranking evaluates universities on reference letter with the Sustainable development Goals set in 2015 by the UN. These goals, agreed by world leaders, set out to eradicate poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity in the framework of a sustainable diary of development (diary 2030). The goals, which replaced the UN Millennium Goals, have become a new measure of global innovation. They take the form of specific targets to be achieved in the decade 2020-2030. They are concerned with poverty, Education, women's equality, access to water, sustainable growth or peace and justice worldwide. A multitude of international agencies, nation states, companies and other local and regional institutions have lent public support to this global plan.
With a methodology developed together with Vertigo Ventures, the ranking evaluates universities on the 17 Sustainable Goals of development based on their impact on society. Taking into account the four best performers, Times Higher Education builds a global impact ranking, which measures how all universities worldwide contribute globally to sustainable development .
