The president the University of Navarra, María Iraburu, has appointed Ruth Gutiérrez Delgado (Jerez de la Frontera, 1976) as dean of the School of Communication. She succeeds Charo Sádaba, who had held the position June 2017.
Ruth Gutiérrez Delgado holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism (1998) and a Ph.D. in Public Communication 2004) from the University. She wrote her thesis “The Heroic in the Films of John Ford,” under the supervision of Professor Juan José García-Noblejas Liniers. She is a tenured professor in the School of Communication, where she teaches Screenwriting, Epistemology, and Heroes and Myths in Film as part of the Degree Audiovisual Communication. She served as Associate Dean for Student Affairs in the Faculty from 2014 to 2023.
A visiting professor at the Universidad de los Andes (Chile) and coordinator of group research (Mythmaking and Heroism in Narratives) research group , her research and outreach work has focused on programs of study audiovisual poetics (TV series and film), myth, heroism, and epistemology. She is a research collaborator with group research , knowledge Action” research group the Universidad Panamericana in Mexico. During the 2024–25 academic year, she completed a professor research fellowship research the University of Hawaii (U.S.) as scholarship Scholar-in-Residence.
president Iraburu thanked Charo Sádaba for “all these years of dedication and work the helm of the School.” In particular, she highlighted “her vital contribution to the implementation of the Faculty’s new strategic plan.” In this context, the president the Faculty’s efforts to renew the curriculum the reform of Degree Journalism Degree and the launch of Degree new Corporate Communication Degree ; she also praised the recent creation ofadvisor committee . “Charo Sádaba has successfully led a process that, based on teaching , seeks to make the School an international leader in programs of study , continuing the bequest of this institution,” she noted.
