The III course Fundamentals of Documentary management and Archival Science in Organizations ends with full attendance

A total of 32 people participated in the III course Fundamentos de la management Documental y de la Archivística en las Organizaciones (Fundamentals of Documentary and Archivistics in Organizations), organized by the School from Philosophy and Letters and the file General of the University of Navarra. The course has counted with the support of partnership of the Archives Service and management Documentary of the Government of Navarra, the file Real y General de Navarra, SCRIPTUM S.L, the Service of file of the Public University of Navarra and the file Municipal of Pamplona.

goal With the aim of providing a basic training in the field of documentary management and archives, as well as to introduce the different employment opportunities in this sector, the students have had the opportunity to acquire the fundamental knowledge about the main functions of a document manager, as well as the international standards of archival description, the peculiarities of photographic, architectural and electronic archives and their description.

As Yolanda Cagigas, director of the course and of the University's General file explains, "transparency in the governance of institutions -both public and private- and the implementation of e-administration are two realities that cannot be reversed and require qualified experts in management document management. There is a demand for people trained in this field discipline, not only in the administration, but also in the world of business ". He also points out that, as all the places have been filled for the three consecutive years, "the conclusion is clear: there is interest on the part of student body, therefore, the next course will be offered as subject elective subject ".

For her part, Carmen Lacarra, a graduate in History and Journalism from the University of Navarra and a participant in the course, said that the balance of the experience is "very positive":"In the degrees I studied, the most important thing is the sources. Learning how the discipline works, which knows and organizes the papers of the world -information is power- is very interesting and this course seemed to me a very good opportunity to listen to and meet prestigious professionals in the archival sector in Navarra". Lacarra, who is currently studying a Master's Degree in archival science, assures that this discipline "embodies a very important intellectual and strategic work on the best way to organize, conserve and make it easy to recover the information contained in the documents that society has been producing for centuries, for the good development of civic and business activities, as well as scientific research ". "In a world full of misinformation like the one we live in, the original sources play an inescapable role in favor of the truth of what is happening in the world," he adds.
