In its second year of celebration, the Kimikarin Science Camp - promoted by Kimikarin, the School of Sciences, the Science Museum of the University of Navarra - has gathered 75 children from 8 to 14 years old who have been able to learn Chemistry in a fun way with workshops taught in Spanish and English.

With a weekly duration and divided into 3 batches between June and July, this initiative is based on the "Learning by doing" methodology , so that children assimilate concepts from Chemistry and general science while experimenting with them in the laboratories of the School Science Lab of the academic center.

In addition, the camps are coordinated by academic staff of the University of Navarra and taught by members of kimikarin - a group of entrepreneurs who seek to experiment with science - and by students from doctorate of Departments of Chemistry and Environmental Sciences.

The themes of the workshops of this second edition have focused on five areas: super powers, water and air, light and color, molecules and sweets and Science Party, structured in workshops of experiments, presentations to position of the children themselves, games, team dynamics and the closing of the workshop, on Friday, with the development and resolution of a scientific challenge .

work "In these camps, children develop valuable personal skills such as teamwork, imagination and creative capacity, while assimilating and internalizing concepts such as acid-base reactions, precipitation, reduction-oxidation, what defines a catalyst, reaction rate and activation energy," summarizes the scientific coordinator,Cristina Sola, professor at department , Chemistry .

Next year Kimikarin UNAV will also launch the second edition of Kimikarin Lab: an activity that takes place two Fridays a month for two hours and in which children will perform experiments related to topics such as chemical eruptions, the sensory Chemistry or the Chemistry of colors. All this with the same goal to teach science to the little ones while they are entertained and experiment with it in a internship way.
