The work has systematically monitored the Spanish TT(trending topics) to determine which users control the social conversation on the topics of the moment. "A more accurate and reliable methodology to measure the influence on social network than the issue of followers", in the words of the author of the study, the professor of the School of Economics Francesc Pujol.

These topics are grouped around the 10 trending topics of the moment, the hottest topics on Twitter. Users who manage to place their tweets among the top tweets of the moment acquire a real status of influence on social networks: this momentary exhibition multiplies the visibility of their messages and can even guide the tone of the conversation linked to the TT.

Tuitstar and media

According to this study, the most popular tweeters in the TT is a tuitstarusers who generate successful content on Twitter but who are not known outside the network, or even have an anonymous identity: 43% of the tweets in the Top 100 come from users with anonymous profiles, a percentage that rises to 56% in the Top 20. The issue one is 'The best of Twitland, @Mejorestwits'. The second position is for 'Mauricio Colmenero, @Colmenero', which is again an anonymous account that parodies the character of the TV series character. The newspaper 'El País @el_pais' occupies the third position.

Among the 100 most influential users, 34% of tweets are generated by the media. Journalists generate another 9.4% of the most engaging content. Parody accounts produce 22.3% of the content. Only 2% of tweets come from influential politicians.

The top 10 have a average of 200,000 followers. The top 50 have a average close to 100,000 followers. There is no clear relationship between the Degree of influence and the issue of users followed: in general, the influencers follow average few people, about 350, therefore, the policy I follow you if you follow me increases the issue of followers, but not the influence.
