Professor Madeline Sutherland-Meier(The University of Texas at Austin) arrived in Pamplona in June 2018, hosted by Dr. Miguel Zugasti and the group TriviUN, to investigate the topic of blindness and the history of the blind in Spain. This American researcher works with original and unpublished documents dealing with blind people (disability, lawsuits, confraternities...) and housed in repertoires and libraries of our city such as the file Real y General de Navarra, the file Diocesano, the file of the Cathedral of Pamplona and the Library Services of the University of Navarra.
Professor Sutherland-Meier is the author of important publications related to the topic: such for example the book Mass Culture in the Age of Enlightenment: The Blindman's Ballads of Eighteenth-Century Spain (1991, on the romances of the blind), or the article "Toward a History of the Blind in Spain", in the journal Disability Studies Quarterly (2015).
