"Witness to a life, repository of a message".

The University of Navarra has celebrated today an academic workshop on the occasion of the beatification of Bishop Álvaro del Portillo.

The three ecclesiastical Schools of the University of Navarra have organized today an academic workshop on the occasion of the beatification of Msgr. Álvaro del PortilloÁlvaro del Portillo, the second Chancellor of the University (1975-1994), which will take place next Saturday, the 27th. Two of his four doctorates were in Theology and Canon Law.

The event, held at the classroom Magna of the ecclesiastical building programs of study , was attended by professors, students and people interested in learning more about some aspects of the life of the future Blessed: his comprehensive understanding of "Christian humanism", his contribution to the law of the Church and his relationship with the Schools Ecclesiastics of the University of Navarra.

María Pía Chirinos Vice President of research and Office of Academic Affairs of the University of Piura (Peru) pointed out that Bishop Álvaro del Portillo strove to support the call to the new evangelization, understood as an action that corresponds to all the Christian faithful, a direct consequence of the call to the new evangelization. For his part, Bishop Valentín Gómez-Iglesias, Full Professor , spoke of Fr. Finally, Msgr. José Luis Illanes Full Professor emeritus of the University of Navarra, explained the origins of the School of TheologyTheologian, explained the origins of the Ecclesiastical Schools of the University of Navarra, as well as the assignment he received from St. Josemaría in 1972 to translate and annotate the New Testament. The first book published was the Gospel of St. Matthew, in 1976. They finished the work in 1989 with the Apocalypse. Bishop Alvaro del Portillo encouraged the professors of the School Theology Department to continue with the books that make up the Old TestamentTheology, a task he completed in 2002.
