BIOMA Institute takes stock of 2024/25 and presents the objectives for the next academic year at its Annual meeting
Members of the BIOMA Institute and the university community quotation at the School of Architecture to review the evolution of the Institute and look to the future.

The Escuela Técnica Superior de Arquitectura hosted on Tuesday June 24th researchers, teachers, PhD students and other professionals to celebrate the Annualmeeting of the Biodiversity and Environment Institute BIOMA. The meeting provided an overview of the evolution of the BIOMA Institute in the last year after the implementation of its Strategic Plan and presented the next core topic for its development. The main objectives were the internationalization, the coordination between the different research areas and the reinforcement of the active partnership between the different centers of the BIOMA Institute, promoting a common identity based on multidisciplinarity.
Carlos Nayadirector of the School of Architecture), Paloma Grau Vice President of research and Sustainability) and Ana Sánchez-Ostiz (Coordinator of the Sustainability and Circular Economics area of the BIOMA Institute and Professor of the ETSA) welcomed the attendees and highlighted the importance of multidisciplinarity as a fundamental pillar in the framework of the BIOMA Institute and its research, emphasizing the ability to create synergies between the different research groups that make up the Institute.
"Sustainability is not built only from a laboratory," said Ana Sánchez-Ostiz, underlining the collaborative nature of the BIOMA Institute. "Scientific diversity not only enriches us. It makes us stronger, more creative and better able to face the environmental challenges we share. Real breakthroughs arise from synergies," she added.
Jesús Miguel Santamaría, director of the BIOMA Institute, then gave an overview of the Institute's data . David Elustondo, scientific director , explored the structure of the Institute, its scientific production, projects and contracts. Inmaculada Pascual, scientific board member , presented the structural hires made and planned for the future, as well as the attraction of talent through fellowships and grants. Finally, Sheila Izquieta, director of innovation, development and transfer, reviewed the main milestones achieved in communication and support for research and transfer.
The meeting concluded with a space for shared reflection, the exchange of ideas and the renewal of the collective commitment to a science oriented to the care of biodiversity and the environment.
