Nancy Carrasco, professor and researcher at department of Molecular Pharmacology of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine (New York, USA), will give a talk on Friday, September 2, on the NIS iodide transporter and its relationship with cancer treatment.

Invited by the department of Food Sciences, Physiology and Toxicology of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Navarra, her discussion paper will take place in the classroom Basement (floor -1) of the V Phase of the Clinic, at 1 pm.

In 1996 Nancy Carrasco succeeded in cloning the iodide transporter of the thyroid gland. This step led to the discovery that this protein is not specific to the thyroid gland, but is expressed in other tissues and in some tumors, such as breast cancer, and could therefore be used as a new therapeutic target.
