Carlos Flores Komatsu, winner of the University of Maryland's IB Agility Labs & Information Systems Global Competition

The student of the School of Economics, Carlos Flores Komatsu has been ranked first along with three students from the University of Maryland in the skill analysis/IS cases of the IB Agility Labs & Information Systems Global Competition.

In total, eight students from the Case Competition Club of the School Economics participated in the worldwide competition organized by the University of Maryland, along with more than 60 other participants and 10 multinational teams from four universities.

Together with Carlos Flores, Naidile Umashankar, Diego Salvador Ibazeta, Ignacio Elia were qualified to participate in the final round of the Competition. Carlos himself relates his experience: "It has been an excellent opportunity to meet, collaborate and learn from students and business leaders from all over the world. In times when partnership is so difficult with COVID-19, working with new faces is extremely enriching. My classmates and I were honored to receive first place in solving the case of Pentation Analytics, an India-based Insurtech business looking to expand into the European market. More importantly, we had the great opportunity to work with and present directly to one of the founders of business. It was a truly enriching experience that I will never forget".

The IB Agility Labs & Information Systems Global Competition is part of the initiative. #KeepGlobalSmith initiative organized by the Robert H. Smith School of Business Center for Global Business at the University of Maryland. It featured the Accounting and Analytics/IS International Business (IB) Agility Labs. These are short virtual case competitions that allow undergraduates to learn from global business leaders, collaborate with international peers and focus on business resilience. During these labs, students benefit from exhibition to an international business , work in teams with business students from around the world, and gain experience internship with cases to build their resumes and CVs. Each laboratory focuses on a functional area of business and features a real case from a business based outside the US.

The case was presented by Sleek, a Singapore-based business that provides accounting and tax services to small and medium-sized businesses. Maryland Smith also partnered with the Business Information Technology Society (BITS) student organization for submit the laboratory information systems and analysis and received participation from Canada's Ivey Business School, Spain's University of Navarra and Austria's University of Vienna Economics and Business . The case was conducted by Pentation Analyticsa business of data analysis that focuses on insurance, banking and financial services technology based in India.
