The University of Navarra and the City Council of Eslava sign an agreement to promote the site of Santa Criz.
The partnership will allow the scientific advice of the academic center in the archaeological project .

The University of Navarra and the City Council of Eslava have signed a partnership agreement by which the academic center will provide scientific advice on the archaeological project of Santa Criz, located in this town. The agreement goal to consolidate and promote the study, dissemination and promotion of the site, considered of Cultural Interest by the Government of Navarra.
The agreement was signed by Julia Pavón, dean of the School of Philosophy and Letters of the University of Navarra and Estíbaliz Lerga, mayor of Eslava. Also present at the signature were Sagrario Zabaleta, councilor of the municipality; Francesca Mariani, coordinator of Santa Criz in the town hall; Luka García and María García-Barberena, archaeologists in charge of the exploitation of the site; Javier Andreu, director the Diploma in Archaeology at the University of Navarra; and Jesús María Ezponda, University Secretary of the academic center.
For this agreement, the University of Navarra will provide scientific advice to the Municipality of Eslava for the development of activities related to the site. Among the actions foreseen are the design of action strategies, the creation of work teams, the elaboration of reports and dissemination plans, and general advice on the research and promotion of the project.
Likewise, the agreement foresees that the students of the Diploma in Archaeology of the University of Navarra will participate in the excavation campaigns of the site, in the activities related to its revitalization and in the guided tours, as part of their academic training .
During the signature, both institutions reiterated their commitment to the conservation of historical heritage and the promotion of the region and stressed the importance of this partnership to advance the scientific study of the site and strengthen its enhancement. In addition, they underlined the impulse that this agreement means for the archaeological research of the territory.
The partnership between the University of Navarra and the City Council of Eslava dates back to 2017, when an agreement was signed in the framework of the centenary of the finding of this Roman city. Since then, 75 students from the academic center have collaborated in the work being carried out at the site, to date coordinated by Professor Javier Andreu, Full Professor of Ancient History. On the other hand, in the framework of this agreement, 3 monographs have been published on the most unique archaeological materials of Santa Cruz and several scientific articles in journals of impact on the forum and the necropolis of the Roman city, both visitable, which have contributed to enhance the value of the most monumental of the Roman cities preserved in Navarra.
