"The economic flu is only the symptom and not the cause of another, deeper flu, of a social nature," said Reyes Calderón, dean of the School of Economics and Business Sciences at the University of Navarra. The expert stressed the need to build the foundations on anti-crisis values such as effort, solidarity and responsibility in order to get out of a crisis where the enigma of the future weighs especially heavily. "We have lost the measure of ourselves and therefore, we are not able to measure value," she added.

Reyes Calderón spoke at the presentation of the conference "La Economics actual ante el enigma del futuro. Review of the Economics Credit", organized by the high school business and Humanism of the University of Navarra. "Let history judge the subject of interest or excess liquidity. And let us dedicate our efforts to rethink regulation from the analysis of the rule, of the measure," he said.

In this sense, he stated that the current crisis "has its roots in our garden. We have disregarded as obsolete values such as saving, effort or concern for the common good, which goes far beyond the general interest. But the truth is that our ability to adapt to the unknown is rooted precisely in these received and internalized traditions. Therefore, it is time to appreciate -appreciate implies putting a price, a measure of value- the discipline and return to the path of dynamic order".

According to the dean of the School of Economic and Business Sciences, the difficult economic situation will not be solved with a more sophisticated regulatory structure. "Before regulating in subject economic we have to put agreement on the rule. The law has not served as an antibiotic. And it has been a long time since we stopped judging based on legality or illegality and buried ethics." Thus, if the social model does not change, "our grandchildren may accuse us of having been able to reduce CO2 emissions and ban smoking or driving while holding a cell phone, but also of having allowed the markets to be filled with toxic assets, financial smoke and speculation".
