Xandra García González, a graduate in Pharmacy from the University of Navarra, is issue one of the spanish pharmacy residency program , the homologous exam to spanish medical residency program aimed at pharmacists that was held on January 28 and whose results have been released today by the Ministry of Education.

In addition to Xandra García, three other graduates of the academic center have been among the top 100. They are Andrea Vergara Gómez, from Navarra, who completed the double licentiate degree of Pharmacy and Human Nutrition and Dietetics, at issue nine; Daniel Echeverría Esnal, also from Navarra, in 40th place; and Andrea Serrano, from Logroño, also from the double licentiate degree, at issue 63.

In total, this year 309 positions for resident pharmacist interns have been announced. 262 places correspond to public hospitals, 44 places are for specialization program Industrial and Galenic Pharmacy and three places will be assigned to private hospitals.

Motivating international experience

According to issue one of the test, Xandra García, the decision to take the exam came after the supervised internship she did at St. George's Hospital in London: "The stay was so positive that I chose to dedicate myself to hospital pharmacy. Perhaps because in this Anglo-Saxon hospital I experienced a concept of the Pharmacy professional very much in contact with the patient. In addition to other aspects in which they are more advanced than we are".

The graduate also emphasizes that the experience helped her to improve her English and to loosen up at attention with her medical colleagues and the patients themselves: "These stays provided by School Pharmacy allow us to practice a lot at language and, at the same time, to take on more responsibility, since as soon as your managers see that you are interested, they give you a lot of autonomy".

Regarding her future, the former Pharmacy student still does not know where she will study at specialization program. The deadline to decide will be closed at the end of March or beginning of April and the training will start in May.
