More than 250 students gathered at congress to "stand up to cancer".

The congress International Oncology for University Students has inaugurated its ninth edition.

The University's Alumni Vice President , Tomás Gómez-Acebo, inaugurated the 19th edition of the International Student Oncologycongress (COE). The meeting will bring together in Pamplona for three days more than 250 students from the academic center and other universities such as Seville, Barcelona, Valencia, Cadiz and Bilbao, as well as the University of Manchester.

The president of congress, Victoria Sampedro, welcomed the participants and, the teacher Salvador Martín Algarra highlighted the wide participation of the students in this subject of initiatives "that serve to face up to cancer". "One more year, you have put a face to this disease, a smiling, calm, hopeful face".

Martín Algarra wanted to convey a positive message to the students: "We are going to cure cancer, we can do it. And this subject of initiatives help us to do so, because they are the basis of the professional knowledge , together with the study, the work, the shared illusion and the dedication to our patients". Finally, he encouraged the attendees to participate actively in the event, "which has not been Exempt of difficulties, basic for learning," he said. 

After the words of Martín Algarra, the lecture "research translational in cancer" took place, at position of Dr. Bartomeu Massuti, head of Medical Oncology at the Hospital General Universitario de Alicante.

Likewise, the oral communications and the visit and critique of the posters presented by the students were held. The discussion paper "Clinical cytopathology: from morphological diagnosis to therapy directed by molecular biology", by Dolores Lozano (Anatomy Pathology of the Clínica Universidad de Navarra), closed the round of interventions.

Oncology nursing and support groups

The second workshop of the XIX congress International Oncology Conference for Students of the University of Navarra will begin with the oral communications of the students. This will be followed by the lectures "Challenges and secrets of radiology in oncological diagnosis", at position by Dr. Jesús Pueyo, and "Oncological nursing", by Paz Fernández, of the Catalan Oncology high school . In addition, Luis Mora, director general manager of Pharma Mar, will talk about therapies.

lecture The congress continues on Saturday, March 2 with a keynote address by Valery Guild, president of the AIM melanoma foundation, who will discuss the role of support groups (foundations, NGOs, etc.) in the fight against cancer.
