Nine types of tumors are related to overweight and obesity, and 25-30% have their origin in smoking

Vaccination, reducing solar exhibition , as well as avoiding alcohol and tobacco consumption and obesity are the keys described by Dr. José María Martín Moreno, advisor of the WHO, to prevent cancer. "Between 25% and 30% of cancers are related to smoking," he said during the congress of Oncology for Students, which brings together 350 students from 17 Spanish and German universities at the University of Navarra.

"It is never too late to quit smoking," said the specialist, who explained that tobacco is not only manager of lung cancer, but also of oral cavity, larynx, esophagus, stomach, kidney, bladder and cervix. "Do not smoke, do not vape either", stressed the expert in Preventive Medicine, who also recommended limiting alcohol consumption: "The less, the better and if it is nothing, the better".

Likewise, the advisor of the WHO Regional Office for Europe pointed out that 9 types of tumors are related to overweight and obesity. In this regard, he spoke of the benefits of physical activity for health and cancer prevention, as well as healthy eating. Among other key points, Dr. Martín Moreno recommended avoiding the sunexhibition at central hours and using sunscreens, and finally, he explained that vaccines are "one of the most promising ways of preventing or treating cancers caused by infections".

Workshops with the association Cancer and Canine Scent Detection and the Basque Culinary Center

The sixteenth edition of the congress International Oncology for Students (COE), organized by the biosanitary Schools of the University of Navarra, delves into the therapeutic novelties and cutting-edge technology that are combined in the research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care of cancer. In addition to Dr. Martín Moreno, specialists such as Enriqueta Felip, vice-president of the Spanish Society of Medical Oncology, and Joaquín Arribas, director scientist at research center Biomédica at network in the area of Cancer, will participate in the congress .

Thirteen workshops were also organized, including that of the association of Cancer and Canine Olfactory Detection (CDOC), from Valencia, which has dogs capable of diagnosing certain types of cancer such as prostate or lung cancer. Yuca, a border collie, was in charge of demonstrating the work of the association. On the other hand, two chefs from the Basque Culinary Center, accompanied by a nutrition expert, carried out a showcooking in which they prepared recipes with 80% vegetables: an appropriate food patron saint for people with cancer and other diseases.
