A team from the University of Navarra, winner of the 2010 Dietitian of the Year Award award
17 researchers participating in the Predimed study have received this award which recognizes activities that promote health.
A team of dietitians and nutritionists from the University of Navarra has been awarded with the award Dietitian of the Year 2010, given by Sprim Spain, in recognition of their work to promote health.
The group researchers, composed of 17 dietitians-nutritionists, are part of the Predimed study (Prevention with per diem expenses Mediterranean), the largest clinical study essay conducted in Spain and funded by the high school de Salud Carlos III of Madrid. This prospective analysis has more than 7,200 participants, coordinated from the department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health of the academic center.
According to Ana Sánchez, one of the award-winning researchers, Predimed is a prospective study involving 19 groups from 7 autonomous communities, in which the award winners are in charge of the nutritional intervention. For the researcher, "the recognition is very important because it is awarded to group of dieticians-nutritionists who have been in charge of following the participants for seven years".
The goal of their work, with healthy participants at high cardiovascular risk, is to test the effect of three types of dietary patterns on protection against cardiovascular disease and cancer.
The latest edition of the award Dietitian of the Year, endowed with 1,500 euros, focused on initiatives in the field of preventive and therapeutic nutrition Education . The winning work will be published in the Journal of Nutrition internship.
